Frequently asked questions
Common questions about our certificates and verification.
Carbon offsetting involves compensating for your carbon emissions by funding projects that reduce or remove an equivalent amount of CO₂ from the atmosphere. When you purchase a certificate, we retire verified carbon credits on your behalf.
According to UK government data (Defra), the average UK carbon footprint is between 12-14 tonnes of CO₂e per person per year. This includes direct emissions from energy, transport, food, and consumption. Many individuals can reduce this significantly through energy efficiency improvements and conscious lifestyle changes.
Scope 1 emissions are direct emissions from your own sources (e.g., fuel burned in company vehicles). Scope 2 emissions come from purchased electricity, steam, or heat. Scope 3 emissions are indirect emissions from your supply chain, employee commuting, and business travel. Most organisations' largest emissions are typically in Scope 3.
PPN 06/21 is a UK government Procurement Policy Note requiring public sector organisations to demonstrate that their procured goods and services have been produced with net zero carbon emissions in mind. It's part of the government's commitment to achieving net zero by 2050 and applies to central government bodies and their supply chains.
